------------------------------------------------------------------- Contrary to what I have read FW(1sec) , MR(1 sec) does not "Truly" erase a memory it only hides it. It can be recalled at any time. Also after hiding it in this way it is not the first available memory when you go to program a new channel. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I have not found a way to NOT use the auto memory channel selection when adding a new channel ------------------------------------------------------------------- My radio Howls at full volume as others have mentioned however if I use my speaker mic (an MFJ) it is VERY load and does not howl. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I spoke to RT Systems (makers of the ADMS software) on Mon 18Jan99 and they said ADMS-1E is not available yet and could only say it would be "Soon" ------------------------------------------------------------------- I have not found a source for Right angle 4 conductor accessory plugs but still looking. I have gotten the straight ones from Tower Electronics Orders 1-800-662-3422 Tech Info 1-920-435-3359 Fax Line 1-920-435-2980 Email KB9AMM@juno.com I bought 3 and as I remember they were around 8 bucks each. They are a straight, molded, pre wired connector with about 20 inches of 4 conductor wire. I asked for a 4 conductor 1/8 in. plug and the sales lady said "Oh you me like the one for the VX-1?" apparently they are very familiar with them. ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- Menu Item #5 and #10 are dependent on each other. If you have #5 (VFO) set to ALL you can not use #10 (VFO Link) If you have #10 set to LINK you can not use #5 ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reset the Usage Timer While usage timer is displayed FW (1 sec), 6 ------------------------------------------------------------------- To set Priority channel Select channel to be set to priority FW(1 sec), Band ------------------------------------------------------------------- TX and RX lights are both disabled if Busy LED menu option (#17) is turned off. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Only the HOME channel of the band you are currently on (VFO or Memory) can be accessed I have not found any way to scroll through the Home channels. While in Home Channel mode turning the dial will copy the Home channel data to the last VFO used and change to that VFO. ------------------------------------------------------------------- While in Spectrum Analyzer mode: MHz tuning is not available. If set to Continuos Mode: Dial = Changes frequency. PTT = Stop Scan. VFO = Start/Stop Scan. If set to Single or stopped in continuos: Dial = Changes frequency and starts one sweep. VFO = One sweep. PTT = TX (Power meter only displays on blank characters) FW+Lamp = Exit Spectrum Analyzer Mode. All 1 second keys including EMG are disabled. The manual says while entering SA mode to hold the Lamp button. I can find no reason for this. ------------------------------------------------------------------- While in Emergency mode (EMG) (Hm/Rv 1 sec): CTCSS and DCS are disabled. Tone and lamp are pulsating. If UHF Home channel has a shift and with Hm/Rv key set to Rev: pressing Hm/Rv key while tone is sounding will cause tone to be continuos and reverse TX/RX frequencies. Pressing Hm/Rv key while tone is off will turn off tone and reverse TX/RX frequencies. In either case lamp continues to blink. Pressing Hm/Rv again will toggle TX/RX frequencies like normal. I have not found a way to use anything other than the UHF Home channel for the Emergency Channel. (Maybe with the software) ------------------------------------------------------------------- While receiving a signal in any of the scan modes the Frequency Decimal point blinks and the Dial will continue scanning in direction turned. If scanning when turned off it will start scanning again when turned back on. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Edge Beep is disabled if Key Beep is turned off If Edge Beep is enabled while in memory scan mode a beep is heard each time it wraps around from one end of the memory list to the other. Scan Beep is disabled if Key beep is turned off. Scan Beep is not mentioned in the manual at all. When stopping on a frequency or memory channel while in scan mode a short beep is heard. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Partial Character Set: Spc !"#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@A..Z[¥]^_`a..z{|}~...Math&Greek...Japanese Characters In label set mode: Hm/Rv = Next Point in Chr Set ( Spc..A..Z..a..z..Japanese Characters ) Tx/Po = Previous Point in Chr Set Fw = Copy character from previous position to current position (no function on first character) MR = Delete from current position to end 0-9 = 0 - 9 ------------------------------------------------------------------- On timer is reoccurring. So if you set it for 10 minutes it will turn on every 10 minutes until you change it. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Memory Group Channels are recalled in the same order they are stored. Changes made to memory channels while in Memory Group Mode are not saved. Direct memory channel number recall is not available in Memory Group Mode. WX Mode is not available in Memory Group Mode. The only way I have found to get out of Memory Group Mode is through the VFO or HOME channel. ------------------------------------------------------------------- In Weather Band Mode (WX): PTT = Begin weather channel scan. VFO (1 sec) = Begin weather channel scan. MR (1 sec) = Begin weather channel scan. PTT = Stop scan MR = Stop scan Tx/Po = Adjust power setting. (I have no idea why you can't transmit even with mods.) HM = 2 Meter Home Channel (Exits WX Mode Returns to Memory Mode) VFO = VFO Mode. (Exits WX Mode) Also you can set labels for all 10 NOAA channels. But the memory Icon will be what ever it was before entering WX mode. Weather Channels can not be copied directly into normal memory channels. ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes for us poor dumb Americans: Temperature Fahrenheit = Temperature Celsius * 9 / 5 + 32 Feet = Meters * 3.28 Inches = MB / 33.682 I set a memory channel with Frequency 3.280 Label T*9/5+32 to help me remember. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Items stored in a memory channel: Frequency Power Level 03 Name 04 Memory Icon 07 Repeater Shift 08 Shift Amount 11 VFO Step 28 Clock Shift 29 Squelch Type 30 CTCSS Tone 31 DCS Code 36 Receive Mode 38 Half Deviation ------------------------------------------------------------------- MARS/CAP Mod Before you begin. If you are not proficient at SMT soldering I suggest you get a dealer to do it for you. OK from the top: 1) Remove the battery. If you can't figure this one out stop right here. 2) Remove Cover for Pressure sensing unit (SU-1). In the book it calls it a "Caution Label" but in mine it is just a piece of black plastic. Pry it up with your thumb nail. 3) Remove SU-1 if installed. 4) Locate solder pads lower left side. 5) With the radio upright remove the 4th solder ball from the left. When removing the solder I simply touched the iron to it for a second then cleaned it up with an Exact-O-knife. BE VERY CAREFUL! Don't get carried away. there is a lot of small stuff in there that is not fond of heat. There are two versions so far. where "x" is a solder ball Before SPEAKER o o o x x x o o or SPEAKER o o x x x x o o After SPEAKER o o o o x x o o or SPEAKER o o x o x x o o 5) Reassemble. 6) Reset Processor following instructions in manual (Pwr-MR-VFO-4). You WILL lose all memory so get ready to reprogram. Done! Here's what I got TX 50.0 - 54.0 (unchanged) 140.0 - 174.0 420.0 - 470.0 RX is the same as before. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 73 -Ed- KF4FDT
